..: SCIBA Success - 2010 :..

BAND Solo Festival

The SCIBA (South Central Iowa Bandmaster's Association) Solo and Ensemble Festival for band students in grades 6 – 8 was held on Feb. 20, 2010 at Woodside Middle School, Saydel, Iowa. Thirty-one students from Grandview Park Baptist School participated in the event by performing a solo with piano accompaniment and being evaluated by a festival adjudicator. Aspects of the performance that were judged by the adjudicator were tone quality, intonation, breath support, technique, articulation, rhythm, dynamics, and stage appearance. There were four possible ratings: I+ highly superior, I excellent, II good, and III fair. Consideration was given for the length of time the student has been studying the instrument. The following results were accumulated. results

Three of our students received the additional honor of being named “best in center” by their adjudicator: Cody, Jonathan, and Tim.

HOIAC '10 Fine Arts Festival - March 4th

Grandview band and choir students participated in the HOIAC Fine Arts Festival on Thursday, March 4th.

Of note...

The new Junior High Pep Band members really helped fill out the sound of the band. The students performed before the start and during halftime of the home football games, even during the rain of the Homecoming.
