My formative years were spent with my parents and younger brother on a farm in NW Iowa. As a result of teaching received at home in Sunday school, I knew from an early age that I needed to accept Christ as my personal Savior in order to go to heaven. I did that, Kneeling by my bed one day as a 5 year old. Christ came into my life that day and has faithfully continued to work in my life. I rely on his promise in Philippians 1:6,"For I am confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in [me] will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." As a young adult, I realized that being a Christian was more than just being involved in a church and living a certain lifestyle, it was a daily, dynamic walk of faith. This meant that I needed to spend time in God's word and in prayer on a daily basis, so that God could direct my paths. Once God had my attention in this way, He opened the doors to be involved in missions through teaching and mentoring missionary kids at Faith Academy, Manila, Philippines. I taught in the Philippines from 1981-2001.
