Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
It's play time again.
I'm excited, are you?
You've badgered and begged,
And pleaded and cried
Yet, I was silent, from me
Not one word was pried.
(Not many anyway)
Is it Grease or Newsies,
Who thought The Lion King ?
With ideas like that
I would never cling.
No, it's easier,
Much easier than that,
For this years play,
You might need a hat!
A big, black hat
On a villain's head,
A whopper white hat
For the hero's head,
A Spanish mantilla
For the dancer dear,
A ten-gallon hat
For the outlaws near,
A bright brimmed hat
To keep out the sun,
A cavalry hat to keep
The villains on the run.
A… oh, that's a different poem.
Anyway,
Back to the play.
It's not very well known.
When I mention the name,
Most of you, … all of you
Won't have heard of its fame.
But it will be fun,
Oh, what fun will be had.
Afternoons spent with Fisher-Fincham-Nilius
Can never be bad.
So, put on your boots,
Strap on your guns,
For there is a shootout,
But I can't tell you who won.
The villain is bad,
The hero is good,
The outlaws are dumber
Than pieces of wood.
Will the hero get hung,
Or will his girl save the day?
Will “The Snake” get away
With his girl named Sue Flay?
Oh, the laughter, the laughter,
The laughter abounds
When the outlaws get caught
Like a couple of hounds.
Don't like to act?
Hey, there's spots for you, too
On make-up and stage
Lights and sound crews, YAHOOOO!!!!
So, come on and try it.
Don't be a weenie.
You know you'll regret it
Like a bowl of linguine….
OK, my poem is done,
My rhyming has quit;
I've mixed up my Suess
And sounded like a nit-wit.
So, without further delay
I'll try my best
To tell you the play is….
